Deferring State Pension

Apologies if this has been asked before....but I have decided to defer my SP due in June this year. I have had a letter from Work and Pensions acknowledging my decision without telling me what my pension would have been if I had claimed. Now I can't use the online SP "estimator" because I am too close to NRD.
If I write to the Future Pensions Centre will they give me an accurate forecast of what I would have been entitled to this June ie including any contracted out deductions or will it still be an estimate including ASP but with the caveat of "could be lower because of contracting out"?
I've based all my spreadsheets on getting only the basic amount with a 10.4% uplift but it would be nice to know whether I will get any ASP or not:)

Ring the DWP Pensions Service on the number given on the invitation to claim notification you will have got (the "BR33") and make a claim.
They will tell you what the entitlement is. Then tell them you want to defer it.
Job done.
Not sure if they will give you a written notice. Normally you would get an entitlement notice (usually the BR2121R) telling you the details of your entitlement but I suspect this might be only if you are going to be paid?0 -
I've already deferred and had acknowledgement -so I suppose the Q I'm asking is, when do they actually carry out the calculation? Reading your reply suggests that it is already done if they can give entitlement over the phone ?? I'll try a phone call later this morning.:)greenglide wrote: »Ring the DWP Pensions Service on the number given on the invitation to claim notification you will have got (the "BR33") and make a claim.

Give them the call and ask them what it would have been. If they haven't done that ask them to tell you what to do to get the amount.
I'm somewhat hesitant to suggest claiming then deferring because you can only defer once after claiming but can defer one more time by not claiming. So by claiming just to get the amount you might sacrifice your chance to defer again later.0 -
Going through the claims process to find out what you would get and then deferring doesnt count as one of the two bites of the cherry.
As long as the account doesnt become live (which it wouldnt in this scenario) it is fine.
This is how it was always meant to work, for some reason they don't tend to use it that way!0 -
Phoned The Pension Service short while ago -got told that they don't calculate unless you are actually making the claim - since I've deferred officially the impression that I got was that I would have to change my decision to find out what I was due to receive-seems a funny way to run the system ...but it is the Government:rotfl:
Think I'll just carry on assuming the worst scenario -that I only get the basic.0 -
I suppose it's worth a phone call to the Future Pensions Centre to see if they can get you something. A call because then they can tell you what they can or can't do and it's [STRIKE]free[/STRIKE] inexpensive, so why not?

So try 0345 prefix instead of 0845 with the same number.
Most, but not all, 0845 numbers have 0345 equivalents these days.
All 03 prefix numbers are charged the same as 01 and 02 numbers - included "free" wherever any numbers are "free".
Just tried 0345 3000 168 and it works!0 -
I tried to phone the Future Pensions Centre this afternoon - but got fed up with waiting !
I'll try @8am tomorrow -wish me luck:)0 -
Try 0800 731 7898 (DWP Pension Service) I found them very helpful.0
