Application forms, employment experience: how far back to go?

I have just seen a job advertised that I would love to apply for. I have been in the workforce for nearly 25 years and have a lot of different work experiences. The application form asks for applicants to state all employment details. I just feel that's too much. My CV goes back 12 years with a 'further details of employment available on request'. I'm in my mid-40s, how far back do I go with this????

If they request all employment details I would give them exactly that. I wouldn't go into detail for jobs more than about 10 years ago, just name and address of employer, job title(s) and period of employment.0

Exactly, give them what they ask for, you're shooting yourself in the foot if you do anything else. They might well not care about anything from 20 years ago but if they do and you haven't included it then your application will be destined for the bin.0

Yeah...you are right. It clearly states all employment, training, education and periods of unemployment since leaving school! It's just so tedious. Thanks.0

I agree just tell them enough to show you have experience, no one likes a CV too long....0

Its not application by CV they want an application form.
Many people who shortlist will be looking for a continuous employment record. They will want to ask about any gaps. They will also be looking at how long someone stays in a job before moving on, and looking to see how often people got promoted without changing companies.
Its tedious, but if you want the job then give them all the information.
I just cut and paste.0 -
I think it also depends on the environment. I think places like banks/financial institutions need to check your full history to check there is nothing lurking and to reassure themselves over any gaps.
If in doubt you could always call them and ask for clarification (anonymously if necessary) ?

I don't even apply for jobs requiring long application forms any more, never hear back anyway! Waste of time for me personally!0
