Sorry, but prepare for major rant!!!!
Why, oh why are the Post Office SO SLOW?
48hrs, then another 48 hrs, and so it continues.
L&C case manager doesnt answer his phone. Nor the advisor.
Last email said " Post Office have just told me the offer should be produced on Friday"
This was Friday gone. No emails to confirm this nor anything in the post today.
Managed to get L&C to call me back today to be told the app is now with underwriters. WHAT?
This is just pathetic!
And to top it all, the vendors of the property we are trying to buy, are so slow in signing their contracts, don't answer calls from EA, so progress there is almost non existent. And the rental contract we are currently in expires end of next month.
This is our first time buying our own home, beginning to wonder why even bother.
Sorry again, rant over.

Both of these things are out of your control, poor on the L&C side for not keeping you up to speed but fee free, they have to stack the applications high to keep a constant income (in essence you get what you pay for).
You have 6 weeks, assuming you get the offer this week then you have 5 weeks for the legals to take place which is plenty of time... assuming you have a decent firm of solicitors and the vendors/vendors solicitors are not dragging their feet.
I think the vendors dragging their feet would be my biggest concern at this stage... is there are a problem? are they trying to drag it out until a certain date?... I would be speaking to the agents to try and find out the answers to those questions. Explain that your not bothered if they want to delay completion until a certain date but you want to know asap so you can let your landlord know.
Its definitely possible to complete before the end of June though, I have done an application through to completion in under a month before now.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. What a coincidence!
Mine is now currently with the Post Office underwriters too! How long have you been waiting?
Our contacts at L and C have been very good at replying to emails though.0 -

You and they are in a chain. Everything has to fall into place between all parties in the chain including those above. Your lack of a mortgage offer will mean that your vendors aren't going to incur costs until they are certain the transaction is going to proceed.0 -
First applied on 24 Mar. We are 1st time buyers, the vendors I think are looking to rent for whatever reasons.
Had a call from the EA this evening and the sellers are sending their paperwork recorded delivery this evening. Let's hope so and it all gets sorted quickly.

It's called branding.
If Post Office mortgages gave you a decent service it would conflict with the Brand message.I am a Mortgage Broker

I initially went with L&C before dropping them and going with Post Office directly. From application to offer was just over 2 weeks and their service was excellent. Our solicitor was surprised how quickly she received the mortgage details. Guessing they're a bit busier now, we applied around March.0

"Why are the Post Office so slow?"
If you asked someone behind the counter to make you a sandwich, it might take a while. Well, after sending a strongly worded email to L&C this morning, we have just received our mortgage offer from the PO.
Next step vendors and solicitors to get moving.
