25 years since I sent mine. I had no idea if it was going to work down the crackly old line so I sent it to myself. And I didn't know anyone else to send one to.0

My son was an early adopter and exchanged messages with others who had the same health problems as he did (as well as contacts on wider subjects). Late 80s as a teenager? Mid 90s he was ill enough not only to be on sickness benefits but too tired and ill to make sure he kept up with benefits paperwork, so they were withdrawn.
I represented him at a Tribunal to get his benefits restored, and used as evidence printouts of his email conversations with other sufferers about how specific medication they had been prescribed made them even more confused and unable to cope with daily life. I took a lot of trouble to explain these printouts, with dates and times.
Eventually, the head of the tribunal, a lawyer, asked us "What is 'email'? What are you talking about?"
We did, as a result of the explanation, get the benefits restored.0 -
I sent my first email in January 1992 (via JANET, but as a Uni employee, not a student). At home we used AOL in 1992 and I still use an aol.com account for personal emails, the only personal account I've ever had since then.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well.
