Call centre said £148, I've been billed £485!

in Credit cards
I've already booked flights and transport to Heathrow, and just booked a hotel.
I spoke with a booking service who said the room would be £148, I agreed and gave the credit card details, stating again before giving the card number that this was for £148.
However, now I've just had a booking confirmation through which says €483.63, so it's in Euros, and it's also much higher. I think this may incur a charge for not being in £s, is that right? My credit card provider is MBNA.
What can I do in this situation, can I take this up with the credit card company for a refund of the difference if the agent is not listening? They say 'that's the price of the booking' but I maintain I was told it would be £158 and if they record the calls they will hear that.
Please let me know my rights here and what can be done, I understand there's something called Section 75 but not sure how that applies here, thanks

So it was £148 or £158? Cancel the booking then if you think the price is not right. And make a complaint to ABTA, IATA.....make sure they know you are making the complaint!0

If you're 100% sure of your facts (bearing in mind you don't seem too sure of the amount quoted per night, and your thread title says £485 when I think you mean 485 euros), then place the matter in dispute with the 'booking service'.
Ask for a manager to investigate it and get back to you within a reasonable (I'd suggest 24 hours) time. Inform them that if they don't resolve the matter to your complete satisfaction, you will ask MBNA to do a charge back.
Then contact MBNA and let them know you have a problem. Give them brief details and let them know you'll contact them again in 24 hours.
Re Section 75, check your credit agreement/T&C's for the following...IMPORTANT – READ THIS CAREFULLY TO FIND OUT ABOUT YOUR RIGHTS
The Consumer Credit Act 1974 lays down certain requirements for your protection which should have been complied with when this agreement was made. If they were not, we cannot enforce this agreement without a Court order.
The Act also gives you a number of rights:
...<snip>...
2) If you received unsatisfactory goods or services paid for under this agreement, apart from any bought with a cash loan, you may have a right to sue the supplier, us, or both.0 -
Hi thanks for that - there is a duplicate thread here but to answer your questions, it's €483 we've been charged, and as on the other thread I've just phoned up MBNA who weren't very helpful.
Is it ok if you could reply on the other thread? I was so annoyed about this yesterday, apparently they can tell you whatever the hell they like on the phone in terms of price but when they send the invoice they can put any amount on there that they like and we're bound by it, I can't believe that's allowed? :mad:0
