Recycling printers?

Hi, I'm IT coordinator in a school and we've got a load of old printers which are still in good condition but we no longer use as we've replaced then with printer/photocopiers. I've had a look and whilst I can find loads of places I can get money for recycling the cartridges, I can't find anywhere that will pay me for the printers themselves (other than ebay or gumtree which I'd rather not do as I'd rather the money went directly to school, rather than via me). Can anyone suggest anywhere?
Thanks

It's hard to get rid of printers - older ones that you might imagine are more valuable than todays disposable stuff suffer from being more expensive to maintain or harder to get consumables and parts for, and newer ones are seen as disposable. The number of £2 printers I see at car boot sales is incredible.

Another option might be to ask one of the hardware maintenance companies if they're interested in them as a job lot - when we used to do that, I was quite regularly buying older printers off eBay or from car boots to use as loan or replacement kit once we'd made sure they were OK.

Thanks both. I'm looking forward to getting them shifted to claim back a bit of space in my classroom!!

Given the recent promotion of STEM and the whole Maker movement, could they be used as donors of their parts for projects eg printers come with motor that could be connected to Arduino or something similar. The components could be reused to demonstrate electronics. Reusing is a lot better than sending to the tip.
  • I know the money recouped from selling them would be useful but if all else fails why not advertise them on your local Freecycle?

No money has to change hands but it is a great way of something having a second life with a new owner. Must be better than the tip!
Problem is you never know if a canny recipient plans to sell the items on for profit. Especially true with job lots I'd have thought.

I put a 'wanted' ad on my local Freecycle when my printer refused to be resuscitated again and received about 8 offers of great condition models. Was delighted with the one I got. Receiver collects, by the way.
