Whilst very annoying, what you describe is not actually unlawful.
With very few limits indeed an employer can dictate when you can and cannot take your holiday.
If they allow you to book some holiday then cancel it you MIGHT under some circumstances have a claim against them if this causes any unrecoverable losses. Like any such claim you would have a duty to minimise the losses as far as reasonably possible.0 -

If, due to a shortened day because of the strike action, a full production run could not be completed (for instance) then it might make sense to not start the production run at all.Don't trust a forum for advice. I expect that would also be unlawful as it's a pretty obvious loophole. Perhaps someone with better legal knowledge than me can clarify.0 -

I'm more than happy where I work and with my T&C's - over the years i've had a few dealings with unions all have proven to be a total waste of time and money. The futures bright the future is Ginger0 -

But as already pointed put by another poster, you wouldn't even get your 20 days if it weren't for fellow workers who joined together in a union in years past.0
