Debt with Orange despite no contract

Hi, I'm new here so hopefully this is the right place to post this.
In September 2014 I recieved a letter from 'Lowell Portfolio 1 Ltd' stating that a debt of £1246.11 I allegedly had with Orange had been passed on to them. I have never had any contract or even PAYG with Orange before and the only mobile phone contracts I've ever had have been in the past 4years, both with Tesco Mobile. That letter came with another sheet claiming to be from Orange, telling me that Lowells will be dealing with it from now on, although it didn't look legitimate in the slightest. It also included an account number which I don't know where it came from.
Since then they've been letters semi-regularly each month. I've ignored it up to now as I thought it was just some chancers hoping that I fell for it. Now this week I've recieved a letter stating that my debt has now been sent to 'BW Legal', one of there 'approved Litigation Agencies'. The BW Legal states that they have been instructed to take legal action and issue a claim against me in the County Court.
Im not 100% sure what that entails but I'm starting to take them more seriously.
I know for a fact that I have no debt with Orange but I'd like a bit of advice in how to put this issue to bed as I get the feeling they wont stop coming after it. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,
Is it in your name ? If so I would say either identity fraud or its someone with a similar name, but as its come to your address, I would suspect the former.
If this is the case you may have a battle on your hands, I would send the provit letter pretty sharpish, as you could end up with a CCJ here foe a debt that's not even yours.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Nope nobody I've took out contracts for or any idea who could have used my details, im usually quite careful regarding information privacy. Is there anyway i can prove this is identity theft? If it's in my name, im not really sure what i can do to prove its not me.0

Well the original phone must of been delivered somewhere, start with orange, don't know how much luck you will have, but defo send provit letter to Lowell, gain some time, as they will hold the account for 30 days till they send you proof.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
