Steam cleaning clothes

Does anyone here steam clean clothes rather than take them to the dry cleaners? If so, do they find this keeps them clean and fresh smelling, or is dry cleaning better for this?
We seem to have a large amount of work clothes which are dry clean only - OH's suits, and lots of my work trousers and formal blouses are labelled dry clean only and experiment with washing these on a cool cycle have not always been successful, so I was wondering whether investing in a steam cleaner would be worthwhile or whether we'd just end up smelling a bit musty!

Not quite the question you asked, but I find simply hanging clothing up in the bathroom while I have a hot steamy shower works to freshen them up and go longer between cleans and is great at getting wrinkles out.But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Hi Nicki - I've found that they're good for freshening up clothes but not so sure about anything with stains? In the case of suits, it would probably let you go longer between dry cleaning and it would take the wrinkles out at the same time!Looking ahead0
