How Much Payrise needed to Move Jobs?

I have just been offered a new role. Its an approx. 15% rise and will involve relocating. My target was a 20% rise but likely to accept as im going from a Small firm to a Global Blue Chip firm.
Out of curiosity, how much in % terms would you need as a rise to accept a new job role. Whether it be promotion , equivalent, etc. involving you leaving your current company, and restarting at a new firm.
And would it be different, if it involved relocation vs commutable distance from current home.

Too many variables to say specifically.
Last time I moved the salary was exactly the same. My travelling time was reduced by 2 hours per day (and associated costs), and I also gained 9 extra days holiday and a safety net of 6 months full pay sick leave compared to my previous statutory minimum everything.
I'd be willing to take a lower overall package for the right opportunity if I believed it would put me in a better place in the long term.
There is a lot more to a package than just salary.0 -
The total package is the important thing for me, not just a basic salary figure. Sedulous has listed many of the factors which should be taken into account. Add to that prospects for advancement, paid overtime versus a higher base wage but no o/t. The list goes on.
If I had to relocate, the new package would have to be a great improvement on the current one as my wife also works.0 -
Sorry I didn't really take into account the relocation aspect of the question.
The long term benefit of the move would have to be fairly substantial, as a relocation would mean a move for both me and my partner (who also works) so we would also have to consider how easy it would be for the other partner to find suitable and comparable work at the new location.
You can plan it all out on paper, but it's difficult to know any of the finer details for sure, so you just need to make a decision (a joint decision if appropriate) and go with your heart.0 -
Sure I defo agree with you guys. The whole package & future prospects does play a big role in decision making. Long term gain over Short Term gains!!
As Sedulous said, there are many variables. And I guess we looking @ Base Salary here for comparative purposes.365 Day 1p challenge - £371.49 / 667.95

I've been offered a couple of different roles at work over the last couple of years - people suggesting I apply for things that have come up in their area as they wanted me to work with them. I'm holding out for a job I'm after that's on promotion - It's a long time coming, but should hopefully all be sorted by the end of July.
It's around a 10% pay rise, going up to about 20% with increments over 5 years. Plus, more freedom/responsibility - same office. That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.
