Losing money, off sick

I have been having a few health problems recently and. Awaiting a Scan at the hospital to find out why. This is I keep having to take time off work cus I feel faint or sick, right now my gut hates me but forcing myself to go into work. I work in a food environment so shouldn't be in if I'm sick. As I'm on a zero hour contract though if I don't work I don't get paid. In the last 2 weeks I've lost £200 :(

Don't know what to do.

Check out Statutory Sick Pay on the GOV.UK site. SSP is based on earnings in the weeks before sickness so zero hour contract shouldn't prevent payment, if you qualify. SSP won't pay out for the odd day off sick here and there.

The rule about working in catering, says if you are vomiting or have the ****s you should be clear for two days. This is because there may be a risk of you contaminating food with a food poisoning bacteria. That you are going in for a scan, says that your Doctor doesn't think this is an infection. You could argue that if you are being sick, that your hands are frequently in contact with mouth and nose, that you are high risk at contaminating food with Staph A. Not sure what the legal position is though, or whether its something Environmental Health advise. The only employer I've seen enforce this is the NHS.

Just did a quick check, and yes its only advisory, nothing enshrined in law.

Good to know about the SSP though especially if I need an operation or any longer time off. I work in the fast food industry and they don't care about the 48hr rule x
