We've got an infestation of these too, can't quite find where they are all hiding to be able to get rid oft hem.

Some got into OHs tshirts and almost all of them have been left with little holes.

I thought I found the root of the problem when I moved the tumble dryer last week and there were loads of dead adults and casings of the larvae as well as some still alive and feasting on a couple of socks the sock monster must have put there months ago. However even after fully cleaning the whole utility room and getting rid of them all there they are still appearing all around the house.

We are now working on one room at a time to completely clean from top to bottom, moving all furniture etc. and closing all doors between rooms until we have it under control.

I wouldn't mind them being there if they weren't doing damage but at least 12 tshirts are ruined and an expensive pair of curtains, these moths have to go.

Today will definitely be a blitz cleaning day! Thankfully DS2 is on study leave so he can humpfh the heavy furniture around for me. I think it will be a two day job tbh as we have a lot of clutter in this house, fingers crossed the steamer kills them!

We had this problem for a couple of years and couldn't work out where the moths were coming from. Then a couple of months ago I changed the bed, removed the mattress cover and found about 20 larvae with holes all over the mattress. It turns out that the MATTRESS had come with a moth infestation inside it and Harrison beds who make them had decided not to contact us about it despite knowing a number of beds had this problem. Just wondering if your bed might be made of natural fibre and thus the problem could be originating from there? I still can't believe we've had this issue, Harrison have since replaced the mattress but the rude man in their customer services tell me there's no need to be emotional about larvae eating our mattress for the last two years and the hassle and upset we've had arising from it so I fully sympathise with your frustration with not being able to find the cause. I still freak out every time I see a moth!

The larvae do the damage, the moths themselves have no mouth parts and, when you see them, they are either 'out on the pull' or starving to death.

They like the dark. They like airless, undisturbed places.

Vacuum under furniture regularly, treat the carpets with insecticides, check your wardrobes and drawers.

If you need to declutter, now's the perfect time.

Stuff which is left in wardrobes, drawers, cupboards and under beds for months or years at a time are perfect breeding grounds.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

Anywhere you think they can be laying eggs - clean vigorously. Anything small enough, seal in a bag and FREEZE THE BAG. Takes about 3 days to kill all the eggs.

I am also a crafter and had to rebag and freeze my entire wool stash, and wash a lot of it too afterwards.

I know it doesn't help with the carpets, but clothes, craft materials, throws, rugs (if they roll up small enough). It all helps. Good luck :)

I got some Rentokil carpet moth killer powder from Amazon a few months ago as my ds when he moved out and moved furniture they seemed to appear in his room. I put the powder down several times and then hovered the room well and so far they seemed to have gone I keep checking but not seen any since.
