Another thing to consider is insurance: I'd think you'd want such a piece of kit specifically covered and I'm not sure whether your normal contents cover would rise to that, especially if it belongs to your employer.
You mention the 'wife acceptance' factor, there's also the landlord acceptance factor ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

@Savvy_Sue - Valid. Although my landlord did see my office once, I explained what everything did and their eyes glazed over. Never asked questions about it since.0
