payment schedule

This topic was posted about on another message board with not many responses. A lot of knowledgable people on here so hopefully someone can shed some light.

Basically child maintenance is worked out using gross yearly income from HMRC latest available tax year, this figure is divided by 52 to give a weekly amount of earnings. Then the formula is applied for the individual situation - no. of children, number of nights with NRP etc. To give a figure of weekly maintenance the NRP should pay. All very logical.

This is the bit I don't get.

The payment schedule sets out monthly payments to be paid on the same date every month.

When I multiplied the weekly amount of maintenance due by 52 which is what should be paid annually and multiplied the monthly payments in the payment schedule they didn't match up, there is an underpayment of about a week and a halves maintenance. This is a past payment schedule as my ex has managed to evade maintenance for now so no current one.

The person who raised this on another message board did actually only receive 12 monthly payments that equals 48 weeks of maintenance.

Surely the weekly maintenance should be paid every 4 weeks, with 13 4 weekly instalments throughout the year, not on the same date every month.

I'd be really interested to hear other peoples experience of this.

It's basic maths, I know it's not right so what's going on???

The payment schedule mirrors the paying parent's liability schedule, if they're paying by direct debit then this can't be set 4-weekly, the frequency would be monthly.

    What is a liability schedule?

My case and the other case I mentioned are direct pay, I received payments via online banking faster payment not direct debit which could easily be paid every 4 weeks.

I appreciate your answer but it doesn't explain the underpayments that occur due to monthly payment versus 4 weekly.

On 2012 scheme, your letter should list the amount of maintenance due until your annual review. This amount is then split equally between the number of payment dates left for this particular child maintenance year on your case. So, if the amount due until annual review is £3000 and there are 10 payment dates left, the payment figure would be £300. Any arrears or overpayments are then added/deducted to/from this figure.
I often use a tablet to post, so sometimes my posts will have random letters inserted, or entirely the wrong word if autocorrect is trying to wind me up. Hopefully you'll still know what I mean.

Mine doesn't show that, it shows the weekly payment, I choose whether I pay weekly or monthly, if I ere to pay monthly then I would adjust the payments to match (around 4.3* weekly) .
