Shell £50 spend earn £10 cashback with Amex

Just got this, by the skin of my teeth.
After the fuel warning light flashing for about 20 miles, I pulled into a Shell forecourt. When it stopped pumping, I had only filled £48! Had to force feed the car to get to £50, at 43.5 litres.
As my tank is specified as 47 litres, it means I need to be near a Shell forecourt with roughly three litres left; or less
If they had offered this when petrol was 107.9p per litre, I would need to come with an empty tank, and a five litre can.
Fortunately, it's a once only deal, so a precision logistic exercise is not necessary every fill-up.
£10 cash back for a £50 fill-up, sweet.

You have to pre-register. It was limited to 1st 60,000 customers.
I used mine. It was £4 more expensive than getting it at sainsburys (so you could argue a £6 saving) and sainsburys had bonus nectar point as well.
So saved some money but here shell is more expensive than the other garages at the moment.June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving
July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550
October challenge £100 a day. £385/£31000 -
Overfilling may just cause the fuel to leak out anyway?
You could have filled up with V-Power Nitro+ (their super unleaded), and you might have reached the £50 spend.0 -

Watford A41, Shell regular petrol 114.9p, Sainsburys 113.9p 200meters away. So 44p difference for that particular fill-up.0 -
Or bought a couple of chocolate bars, or maybe a giftcard.
Which is the whole point of setting the £50 threshold, for Shell,
so you would buy high profit margin items you wouldn't buy otherwise.
I was just pointing out that for cars with small tanks, it is tricky to arrange a £50 fill-up.
Not complaining. I am paying £25 annual fee for the Amex Cash Back card, so this kind of deal somehow makes it all worthwhile.0 -

I have an Amex, (Barclycard), 1% cash back CC, no annual fee.
.
No annual fee, 1% cashback, 5% on £2,000 intro
£25 annual fee, 1.25% cash back. 5% on £2,500 intro.
The 5% on the extra £500 introductory promotion is £25, so they actually cost the same in year one, if you spend £2,500 in the first three months.
I can use the 1.25% Amex in Costco. Amusingly, I was using the Santander 123 CC in Supermarkets, for the 1% cashback, but the Amex is actually better at 1.25%.
I normally use the Santander 123 CC for petrol, because I get 3% cashback, plus Nectar points, but the one off £10 cashback for £50 spend is 20%!
The head spins juggling all these cashbacks.0 -
Does this cashback deal work with a Barclaycard issued Amex?"A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0

Yes, as per post #7.

Yes, as per post #7.

Thanks. Post 7 doesn't actually mention the £10 cashback, just that you don't pay an annual fee so I thought I'd ask to check. There's no mention of Amex casback anywhere on the Barclaycard website as far as I can see."A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0
