mum2one & chasingfreedom- Took on board your advice and let my fiance know. She understands fully and you're right it does give me a wee bit of extra support now which is always good. Thanks!
Today was a mixed day for me.
Yesterday was a successful NSD so glad about that, however last night I was up all night being sick so this morning in work (had to go in as only recently started and don't want to risk calling in when on probation!) I had nothing in my stomach so couldn't wait until dinner tonight for something to eat so paid for a cajun chicken burger in the canteen. It was actually enjoyable though so I'll just make sure that that constitutes some of the money I've allowed myself for treats each week (£5-10, £5 preferably!)
Sat down with OH and looked through our bank statements. Looking at drafting up a plan for each month together and seeing what we can do to beat our debt. OH only has a small overdraft and one CC with £200 on it but said she would do this with me for moral support! So thanks again for all your advice on this!
Put a couple new items that I had stored away gathering dust on gumtree and already had interest so should have an extra £20-£30 this week to pay off CC!0 -
thats brilliant news, good that she is being supportive, I think its hard to admit the debt to the ones that are important to us.
I would say use a budget for a month, see whether you can save in one area / another needs a bit more, and if you find a big gap between what you think and what you have - use a notebook for every purchase - whethers its £1 for chewing gum, or £20 for underwear.
Ebay items - also good weather coming up see if you have enough items for a carboot sale xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Ah great news, I'm glad it went well and she is supportive. That's how it should be, teamwork
Don't beat yourself up about having the odd treat, we all have to do it to keep sane and keep going. Good idea about the car boot, you'd be surprised the little things people will buy. I do one now and then, probably only once a year to have a clear out of kid stuff and always make over 100 quid just in the odd 2 quid here and there. Worth it for a morning of your time
Hope you're feeling better x0 -

Thanks everyone
Hope you're all doing well!
Today was a great day! Another NSD so VERY pleased with thatAlso was feeling a bit blue tonight after work etc so decided to go for a jog. Must have just let my frustration out on myself as I bet my 5k personal best by about 1 minute! Sub-25 minute 5k hopefully some time this week.
Not much on the front of saving today, listed another item on Gumtree and meeting with two people tomorrow to sell a guitar and a portable iPhone 5 charger so that'll be £25.00 to pay off CC so happy days
Hope you're all well!0 -
Awesome, it would probably take me 2 hours to do 5k, haha
Have a great weekend x0 -
So it's been more than a while since I've updated this, and what an update it is.
I've managed to cut around £1500 off of my debt since last time. A collection of items sold have all helped me to cut this down and to be honest I don't miss any of them.
However, and it's a very large HOWEVER, my fiance and I have just taken out a mortgage, so I think that renders the previous work moot in terms of finances - I have learned a lot through selling and saving though so bring it on!.
Mortgage is £196000 so add that onto the debt lol But bring it on I say, it is over 30 years but no way I'm paying it over that going to hopefully tackle it in 20-23 years and be debt free again.
I welcome the challenge.
