I was amazed that the majority of the UK population (66 per cent) hold no positive financial assets at all – with the combined £9trn held privately in the UK spread between the remaining 34 per cent.

Positive - but then again, given that I spent a decade working harder than just about anyone I've ever met, ( CK excluded ), I'd be surprised if I didn't.

Surely you could take a break now cepheus?

Next General Election is years away.... ;)

But regardless, the "Equality Trust" assertions are bogus....

Median Net Wealth in the UK (excluding pensions) is £144K, the 30th percentile is around £45K, and the 70th percentile around £250K.

When you include private pensions the picture is even better....

always refreshing to know that our 'experts' are surprised to learn that that 21 year old young people have less wealth than people in their fifties.
one would never have expected that

I've always believed that for unsohisticated investors you should get a repayment mortgage and a pension, both are tax efficent but over time you are bound to come out +ve and if you start early on (day 1 preferably) then you never miss the income and simply cut your cloth to suit.
It's worrying if lots of people have no pension provision.

As clapton points out, older people are bound to have more.

I thought QT last night was really different, people suddenly seemed to feel safe applauding centre right sentiments and Tristan even admitted Labour had not run an appropriate fiscal policy!

On topic how are net assets measured in your charts, should I divide household wealth by number of adults or number of people or is it a household measure already?
    I think....

I have no pension. On a single wage it's difficult enough to afford housing/a mortgage and maintain it.... pensions are off the radar.

As the world median net worth is $0 that means pretty much everyone in the UK is in the top 50% of wealth holders.

Hamish, it would be really interesting to see what the chart looks like with public pension entitlements included too... those thing are worth hundreds of thousands.
