Lexmark X1150 won't print even with new cartridge

I bought a cheap all in one several years ago and used to refill the cartridge with black ink via a syringe but it eventually failed. Just used it as a scanner for several years until a few weeks ago when I spotted genuine cartridges in Tesco for a pound! (considered obsolete now). I've cleaned out the heads but the printer just goes through the physical process without delivering any ink. I've just found the original installation disk, so should I remove and reinstall as a first step?

I am no expert, but it sounds as though the printhead has failed.
I had a Lexmark years ago and I think it suffered the same fate.
Modern technology is great - until it gives up the ghost after a very short time.

Assuming the printer has been idle for a long period of time. It sounds like the printing head has fused (become blocked), I have gone through many printers in my time all of which succumbed to the scrap heap as the cost in replacing the head far outweighs the cost of the printer.
