Hello you lovely people,
I am hoping that you will provide some help to get my appetite back.
I have been living off toast, chips etc for months now as i have to appetite.
I am looking for inspiration as to what i can buy to entice my tastebuds.
I am disabled so going to the supermarket for inspiration is difficult.
No curry, kidneybeans, fish nothing with even the hint of being spicy. Nothing in the slow cooker i find it all tastes the same (tastless). Sorry if this offends.
I dont have a lot or energy of time to prepare and cook. i like quick and easy where possible.
Hope i am not being to awkward and fussy,
thank you in advance
regards

What sort of food used you to enjoy before you lost your appetite?0

Hi
Sometimes the smell of food cooking can help appetite. HelpTrigger them taste buds lol.
I too have lost my appetite. What helps me is usually if I buy my favorite's or something I remember enjoying or adding a condiment or coleslaw something flavoursome.
Hope you get something that works0 -
Do you have the energy to do a roast, assuming you eat meat? Roast chicken always gets my tastebuds tingling. There are lots of things you can do with any leftovers, but cold chicken & salad's the easiest option.
Not forgetting chicken noodle soup, made with stock from the bones; my mother's been ill, and not eating a lot due to feeling nauseous, so I took a pot of chicken noodle down there yesterday that I thought would last her a couple of days. She rang last night to announce she'd polished it all off in one sitting! Soups in general are easy, tasty & nutritious; they may take a little time to make, but for most of that time they don't need any attention, they're just simmering away. A stick blender makes light work of the final stages.
Eggs are a quick & easy standby too; poached eggs on toast (made from good bread, not supermarket cardboard) with a light sprinkle of salt & pepper, scrambled eggs with a few flakes of smoked salmon with some rocket leaves & tomatoes. Baked potatoes are another simple but tasty thing; good just with butter, or sour cream & chives, but you can fill them with anything that takes your fancy at the time. Thanks for the replies.
Some of the things i used to love were gammon, roast dinners, lasagne, i know i said no fish but i like it battered with chips, to be honest i can't really remember it has been that long.
Yep great tatties and i get them free!!!!
i should maybe look on the what you making for dinner thread.
All forms of egg on toast are good too.
Thanks again everyone:j0 -
Aww, Tooties, I feel for you; I'm much the same - by the time I've made dinner, I've lost the will to eat! And I find everything tastes of cardboard a lot of the time, too.
One of my cupboard stand-by staples is tinned chopped tomatoes - so versatile when I'm having a bad lupus day.
This takes very little time and energy to do:
Dice some onion, fry in butter in a small saucepan. Chuck in some of the aforementioned tinned toms and a few dried herbs. Cut up a couple of hot dogs (I use veggie ones) and add to the pan.
Meanwhile, in another saucepan, cook a helping of tagliatelle as per the pack instructions (about 7 mins, from memory)
Drain tagliatelle and put onto plate, chuck tomato mix on top, eat.
I use tinned toms in several soup recipes, too, but they take a bit longer to do.
Tomato seems to be one of the flavours I can still taste, even with the lupus at it's worst.

Hi Tooties,
I am the same, the tablets I take for diabetes seem to diminish my appetite.
Himself still has a good appetite, but to be honest I am happy with a bowl of soup and gluten free bread, or a salad (if I am in the mood for it) and lots of fresh fruit. He likes a cooked meal in the evening, but as Lame Wolf says, by the time I have cooked it I don't want to eat it.
I think as long as you manage to eat some protein each day and have a small helping of fruit and veg, if that is all you feel you can eat each day you should be ok. Please, though, remember to drink plenty of fluids.

My mum suffers with lack of appetite, some things she finds helps are...
High energy foods like nuts, dried fruit, cheese with crackers... picky things rather than a whole meal which she finds overwhelming. Often once you've had a little energy intake you may feel like eating a proper meal later on.
A little alcohol also helps stimulate appetite, so worth a try if you aren't tee-total.June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

Soup. Blended soup in a cup sipped at
I do the posh version of potato and leek called vhicyssois, just use a mix of milk and stock, cos it's just as nice cold. I work in a kitchen and getting time to eat is hard so I take some in a Tupperware cup and sip it throughout the day
I'm also a picker. I like hummus and taramasalata and nice cheeses and pates. On crackers. I also like to have jars of olives and those lovely stuffed peppers in the fridge
One thing I eat when I'm ravenous after a double shift is a pitta spread with dairylea and stuffed with scrambled eggs, I like to add chopped raw onion and a sprinkle of chillie as well. Really stuffs me full but is light enough not to over kill the stomach at night0 -
Fresh fruit (dehydrate some for a change of texture?)
Nuts?
Strong flavours in very small quantities may reawaken taste buds!0
