Halifax - FTB rates and using a broker

Options
I have been looking on the Halifax website at the rates available to first time buyers with their 1% cash back deal. However, the Halifax rates available via my mortgage broker are not quite as good.

Does anyone know if this is common with Halifax? Is it a case of going to Halifax directly if you want the better rate, rather than using a broker? Any other general Halifax advice would be good too!

Thanks for all your help and advice... there's a lot to understand!

I'm in the same position and asked the broker but I've been told if we go directly we'll pay some fees. I don't believe the cap anyway but I'm not sure if I want the hassle dealing directly with the bank.

The direct rates are currently marginally more aggressive with pricing.

As an example a £495 fee v £999 fee but with a 0.1% higher rate direct.

The affect on your own case depends on your lending levels.

Both via a broker and direct you can get the 1% cash back offer.

By the time Halifax try to sell you uncompetitive add ons you may save nothing going direct.

Your chances of acceptance are better with the broker.

It is a shame that some lenders still do this.

The regulator has always stated dual pricing to be a commercial decision and none of their business.

Apparently, however, taking brokers on a golf day is not a commercial decision and is the regulators business.
