Capquest Help Needed

Please could someone help me with this?
I've had a letter this morning about a debt to Littlewoods Finance Co of £126.03 from 2001. This relates to a catalogues that I had when I lived in a shared house and one of the other people ordered some stuff, I assumed it was paid for as I used to give him the statments, and as far as I knew,he was making payments. It looks as if he didn't pay anything or not all of it.
I have phoned Capquest, who have said that it was taken out in March 2001 and is not statute barred because payments were made after that. How can I find out when the last payment was made? I have no idea where my old housemate is now and I realise that I will probably end up having to pay this. (God knows where I am going to get this money from!).
Just wanted a bit of advice as the letter they have sent is really scary.
The letter is in my maiden name and (stupidly) I told them my new surname and was also a bit vague about when I lived at that address so they then said that if I hadn't ordered the stuff then I had to get a crime number off the police as it was a fraud.
I'm rerally scared, all help much appreciated.

You need, and CRAPQUEST must furnish this on request, a FULL statement, showing EXACTLY when the last payment was made.
CAPQUEST have been known to 'be economical with the truth' on occasion, especially when it suits them.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Rather than phone CRAPQUEST, just send them the letter which you will find on the following link:
They will SOON come back to you if the last payment was less than six years ago.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.

I am sending the letter today by recorded delivery,do you know how long they have to provide me with a reply? Will they still continue to send me letters etc in the meantime and if they do what shall I do?
Sorry to ask so many questions but I'm really worried and DH is none to happy with me either :embarasse**Trying my best to be the best that I can**

Hi Joanne - they SHOULD stop harassing you immediately, but the chances are that they will send you a letter stating that they know of nothing that stops them from asking you to pay the 'alleged debt'.
If they do, or if they phone, stick by your guns - it is against the Office of Fair Trading Guidelines for Debt Collection for a Debt Collecting Agency to continue to attempt to collect a debt once the debtor has informed them that they will not be paying as the debt is statute barred.
The full guidelines, which includes harassment, can be seen here:
If they ignore these guidelines, by continuing to harass you, report them, in the first instance, to the Trading Standards Office. I would suggest that you download a copy of the guidelines for future reference.
Hope this helpsI am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
