What do you do, when your sad about your debt?

Options
I'm just curious. Maybe its this and a combo of the weather, but I'm feeling quite sad today, when I feel like I have no money, because I'm paying so much to my debts, and don't feel like they are going down :(
26/05/2018 = I DID IT! I am DEBT FREE!
Debts repaid since 06/02/2015 = £23,079
Mortgage...forever!!!! - But who cares, when all I've ever wanted is my own place!:j

  • I know what you mean, sometimes it feels like a long road and that you are walking in quicksand!!

I tend to try and distract myself, have a bath, read a book, get an early night. Or try and plan something (cheap!!) that I will enjoy so I have something to look forward to.

You are making progress, you've paid 1400 quid off your debt in only a few short months. I have lots of spreadsheets, snowball calculators etc that I do to focus me and I like to play around with the numbers and see how fast everything will be gone. Very geeky I know but I think I am actually obsessed!! lol

Keep your chin up, you are on the right road and before you know it we'll be into the next year and you'll have made a massive chunk off your debt and be in a better place :)

I'm new to the debt free mindset too. And can see I have been up and down like a yoyo emotionally. I feel best when I look at what I have just done and what I can do next. I am learning to take on the chin what I have no control over and refocus fast as I can on what I can control.

Whaddya mean you don't feel like you are making progress? By what I can see you really are.

Perhaps its the same for you as it is for me...debts came about through the "I want it Now" mentality. They are not going to disappear in the same way. Now comes The Work. And there will be good days and bad. Be kind to yourself x

I find it difficult to keep perspective sometimes and so tend to forget that every day is progress. I try and remind myself that I am doing ok, read inspirational stories on here and spend time with friends or do some exercise to get out of my own head! Oh and sometimes I just sulk - but I wouldn't recommend it!

Proud to be dealing with my debts
  • When I'm down about being skint, I think of the queen. She's recently announced she's saving money by having only one glass of wine for each course at dinner: must be hell for her.

I have had loads of days like yours. I get through it by looking at nice places to visit on the net and bookmark them knowing that one day I will be able to visit them. Also I find getting out for a walk in the hills or a rummage through a charity shops for bargains lifts my spirits. I started my dmp with £35.000, I only have £5500 left, I have been on the dmp for 4 years

Love what Polly said. It is so true. I often get that feeling of wanting rid NOW...which as she wisely said led many of us to being in debt.

Things I do personally, write lists of what I am pleased about to do with progress. When I do that I instantly see that I've achieved oodles in the time period. And I find the act of writing clears the mental fog too.
Also personally again but cuddle my son. Look at him. And think of everything I am doing to keep him safe, warm and fed every day. That's what he needs not expensive this or that.
And have little treats. Like a nice coffee out every so often. Yes I could have a coffee at home but it's about needs vs wants.

    All the best keep going!

  • Write reviews of how helpful you've found the companies so least other customers and potentials know just what they are letting themselves in for, I was quite ok until I started seeing oh we haven't been charged! Probably best the lender's office is closed but it has got my back up.

If can do it for one, should for all. Stuff doing the quiet thing.
