Council Tax Confusion

Hi guys,
I'm new to this but I just wanted to know when do I have to start paying council tax as I am a student up until June, but I received a letter from the council charging me from the 1st April 2015 - 31 March 2016 totaling £ 891. It also has an exemption class n on it meaning it's discounted because I'm a student which deducts £124, as well as sole occupancy which deducts £191.
I am still left with a total of £613, I don't know if this seems right to anyone but surely they should charge me once I'm no longer a student. So does that mean that two lots of £124 will be deducted or am I just wishful thinking.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and I can't wait to get some responses.

It sounds like their system has already adjusted the council tax charge for the year based on your being a student until June 15 and then applied a single person discount from then until the end of year (check the dates on the bill as £124 seems too low to cover April and May as an exemption).
It's arguable as to whether they can do it this way as they should only issue an amended bill once an exemption ends otherwise you're paying the same amount but having to find the money whilst you're still a student.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
