Hi, Just after a bit of help.
Husband was self-employed but has had no work since end of March. Since then we have applied for benefits and have found out we are not entitled to anything apart from child benefit.
Not sure how we can survive on my wage only.
Debts already on payment plans as his business was struggling along for a while!
Household of 3 (2 adults, 1 child) plus a cat.
Here is my SOA for anyone to help, hope this is the right place.

It does look like you are going to have to be really ruthless with your outgoings and cut out all you possibly can.
Is hubby now looking for employed work? or still hoping his self-employment will pick up?
is there any scope for you to earn more? can you do any overtime for example?

Hi, Thanks for the reply, working my way through the bills seeing what we can do.
Husband looking at either employment or self-employment again whatever comes his way so hopefully it will be short term.
Iv'e asked for tax credits to be reconsidered so hopefully will get slightly more.
The debts are mostly on £1/month apart from a store card which still gets used now and again . I set them up myself and am managing them fine i think.:j0 -

whoa!!! Your husband needs to be MUCH more proactive than that. You are in the middle of a financial disaster. He needs to spend every waking moment that he not looking after the kids, out and about finding work, now!! ANY WORK AT ALL, NOW!!!!
Does he understand how dire your financial situation is? What has he been doing in the two months that he has had no work? what does he think was paying the bills?? Do you need to be paying £150 for childcare if he's not working or is that to keep your space for when he does find work?

I also think you need to check the working & child tax credit position because with two kids on that income you should be getting a fair amount.Total debt at 18.9.17 £1950

I believe the cut off point for tax credits with one child is £26,000 so, with the OPs salary (I think it must be around £18,000) if her DH earned even £8,000 last year that would make them ineligible... however...
A new tax year has just started, you should try contacting them again, OP, and letting them how there has been a huge drop in income from last tax year to this as they have probably assessed you on last years figures.
I fell foul of this a couple of years ago when I was made redundant in the December. In the 9 months that I had been working (combined with my husband's earnings of £7,000 pa) we'd earned over £26,000 in that tax year so we're entitled to sod all.
