accidentally I may add. It's about 3cm by half a cm.
have sent off fro some invisible mending fabric, but the instructions weren't clear. Will I need some material to make a patch as well? Or any other ideas/ tips would be very much appreciated.
TIA

What bothers me is the half centimetre - if it was just a tear then, depending on where it is, you might be able to darn it.
As it's actually a hole, you will need to cut a small piece - from the facing maybe, or by shortening it, or shortening the sleeves - and it may still not look good.
Where is it? I would think about being creative about hiding it somehow.
And if you're really not a sewer, then I would think about professional advice - but that is expensive.

thanks for the reply. I am so mad at myself.
I will see what this mending fabric is like. Meanwhile i will look at where I can take a graft from!
it's sort of waist high, underneath where your arms would hang, so maybe it will be hide-able!

I have no advice, but wanted to send you my sympathies. I recently washed a cashmere jumper for the first time - in a pillowcase on a hand wash cycle and it came out with holes in it. I was so upset!!

    Hopefully you can mend yoirs

Have you considered a lace applique? It could be in a similar colour to the shirt and maybe look more like a logo than a patch. Silk on silk might look worse than making a feature of it. Etsy or eBay have some.
  • Youtube have advice on what to do for a tear.

I'd take that back.. if you followed the washing instructions and it is ruined that is not acceptable.

if the fabric is there still the mending fabric just irons to the back and glues it all together.. like sticking paper with sellotape.

If the piece of fabric is missing you will need to find something to cover the gap obviously or the mending fabric will be visible and will need a small piece of fabric from elsewhere.. the inside of the cuff is a good place and stick another piece of the mending stuff over the hole there too.

The other thing to think about is not hiding it exactly, but making a feature (and therefore hiding in plain sight)- buttons, a belt tie in a complimentary/contrasting colour, an appliqu! patch, embroidery etc. depends on the handle, style and colouring of the shirt and your own style of course whether that would work, but I've successfully hidden flaws before by drawing attention to them rather than trying to hide them.

I recently bought a beautiful chiffon silk blouse from a CS that, unknown to me, had a hole that had been mended with like a wundaweb type stuff - I presume this is the mending fabric? It must have been done well, as I hadn't noticed it at all in the shop. But now I've spotted it, it's driving me mad so I'm going to have to do something about it - and it's right in the middle of the back :( so I feel your pain.

Is yours anywhere near the side seam? If so, it may be possible to "hide" the hole by incorporating into the seam. This would mean that both side seams would need to be taken in to match, and it would reduce the size of the blouse. Alternatively, what about a belt? I'm thinking that this may be the only solution with my blouse :)
