Cheap Computer

I know that there are quite a few of these but they don't hang around for long.

personally I think that this is a pretty good offer and comes complete with OpSys for £199 (+vat+p&p).

still looks cheap to me and great for a basic system that you can build upon - all for £234.99 inc VAT.

Yeah for less than £10 more you can get a Dell with a 17 inch CRT monitor according to their latest tv deals and if you get it within the next two days that price includes free delivery (normally £58). There is also free double memory which takes it up to 512mb

90 Day warranty, No sound card, No speakers, and a monitor that most wouldn't want anyway.

I'm sure that you could even find a 'Tiny' that's cheaper still but this is an ACER computer with 6 USB ports, card reader, superior chipset (Extra memory only 39 quid) and better build quality and better after sales service.

Sorry, I do not feel that there is any comparison except the price but that is only my own opinion and I'm sure that there are many that would agree with you.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the deal you linked to only has onboard sound also. For £240 the Dell deal is a good one considering the memory has been doubled and there is a monitor, also Dell is customizable so you could increase the warranty to 1yr rtb for instance. At the end of the day there is nothing wrong with a CRT monitor, LCD's are only just beginning to provide the quality of CRT's when it comes to gaming and watching dvd's. They are falling in price yes but they are still more expensive. If you are looking this from a purely money saving point of view and you don't have a monitor lying around you'd probably go for something with a monitor included.

I thought that was the point of this website looking for good cheap deals. There is nothing terribly wrong with the quality of Dell's they aren't generally regarded as clapped out bangers that are going to die a week or a year down the line. Now Tiny or Time seems to have a very bad reputation and extremely poor aftersales.

I take it that you have dealings with Dells aftersales then.
Upgradeable? To a point and provided that you use Dell parts, in the main. (I'm not referring to add-ons)

Dell is simply a machine that I wouldn't purchase out of choice unless they made a mistake on their pricing, personally speaking, but if you like them then that's YOUR choice, isn't it.

Just had a Dell machine delivered today (for my Mum!).

It has a standard Intel Pentium Celeron Processor (upgradeable).

    Standard DDR memory (upgradeable).

    Standard IDE hard drive (upgradeable).

Standard DVD/CDRW (upgradeable) + spare slot.

    6 USB's + network outlet.

    3 PCI slots all empty.

The only thing it hasnt got is an AGP or dedicated graphics card slot.

But for £302 including 17" TFT its brilliant and will keep me mum happy for years.

I got a dell dimension 3000 late last year upgraded ram to 512mb and pci graphics card and even sims 2 works fine, and ideal for a reaosnable pc, although the pc wouldnt have a very long life as a games machine. But fine to odd game, surfing, word etc.

No longer a user, goodbye folks. PLEASE delete my account. Thank you
