As I have now been given a permanent contract I am able to join the pension scheme

My monthly wages are £675, and I am 44. I have no idea how much I should be paying into a pension. I have tried looking online at a pension calculator but it came back with a figure of £0 as my wages weren't high enough for it. How do I know what I should be paying into a pension? Also will it affect Housing Benefit in any way?

Hmmm. I'm pretty sure this question would do better on the pensions board - would you like me to move it for you?Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

The answer will depend on many variables.
e.g.
When do you plan to retire
What existing retirement income plans do you have
What pension do you hope to retire on
What amount would your employer contribute
What can you afford
etc
etc
etc
I suggest you seek independent financial advice.
I wouldn't have thought saving into a pension would affect any housing benefit entitlement, but it would be worth asking specifically about this on the benefits board.0 -
