How do I clean cast iron gas hob saucepan stands effectively?

Hi all, hoping that some of the geniuses on this board can help me please :)

We have a range cooker with five gas hobs. It comes with three cast iron (I think!) large black frames onto which the saucepans go over the rings. Trouble is, these are so difficult to clean effectively so was wondering what you do to get them clean?

It's been suggested that I put them in the dishwasher but they have rubber feet which are bound to come off in the machine knowing my luck! I've tried spraying them with oven cleaner and leaving them outside but this was a bit hit and miss.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

  • Someone else will probably have a better suggestion but I just scrub them in the sink with hot soapy water and a stainless steel scourer.

HOT water and washing up liquid, soak, scrub with a green/sponge dish cleaner. Repeat.

Of course, it's rare they'd fit in the sink and you do get completely annoyed/soaked trying to do them half at a time.

When I had a gas hob, I used to first soak the supports in a sink full of hot water and washing powder.
Then I'd give them a scrub to get stubborn bits off with either a scourer or a brillopad.

Mine go in the dishwasher, and some of the rubber feet are loose, so i either taken them off beforehand or they fall to the bottom of the dishwasher (in which case i just push them back on)
Anything from the oven too big to go in the dishwasher I wash in a big bucket with soap powder (its a brilliant de greaser)

I used to soak them overnight with a few dishwasher tablets and then a brillo pad.
I have got an induction hob now that only needs a wipe, and it is bliss. :D

I have a range cooker with the cast iron thingies too. I just give mine a scrub with washing up liquid and a scourer in the washing up bowl. Have to top and tail it but seems to work.
    Never, ever give up........
