Not just the bad reviews, though. This is yet another example of Amazon's deliberate and persistent 'fake' pricing aimed at making potential customers think they're getting a better deal than they actually are.

Amazon sell this at an average price of around £22. The 'RRP' they use is entirely bogus, and breaks government guidelines - but fortunately for Amazon the government's too weak to tackle Amazon on this, or on its persistent and aggressive tax avoidance.

Why not complain to the Advertising Standards Authority if you feel so strongly? They can and will act. See http://www.asa.org.uk/

I have, and they claim to be looking into Amazon's RRP deception. It's a very slow process, though.

'Official' MSE and Which? publicity would probably have more impact!

They may be staying just at the right side of the edge of the law by not describing it as a "sale price" / "special offer price" / "Limited offer" etc etc ?

The OP is wrong - Amazon do not quote a "was" price. They quote an RRP. so they are not saying you save £50 on a price they where previously selling it at

And there are people trying to sell it over £70

Agreed. No way is this worth £72. It's a strip cut, the minimum anyone should be looking for is a cross cut shredder.

    PRICING PRACTICES GUIDE

Guidance for traders on good practice in giving information about prices.

    NOVEMBER 2010

1.6 Comparisons with "Recommended Retail Price" or similar

1.6.1 You should not use a recommended retail price, or similar, as a basis of comparison which is not genuine, or if it differs significantly from the price at which the product is generally sold.

1.6.2 You should not use an RRP or similar for goods that only you supply.

A practice broken by Amazon every second of every day - with total impunity.
