I'm a host family for foreign students with various language schools.
It's pretty easy to be honest. Most the students that arrive here are all 17/18 years old and eager to learn and explore. I don't see them much as they have so many activities with their schools. All I need to do is provide breakfast, and an evening meal with pack ups at weekend. And obviously keep an eye on them.
The downside is lack of privacy and fighting to get in the bathroom at times lol.
I've been doing it years and I've met lots of really lovely people who I keep in touch with still. XLife is not about learning to avoid the storms - it's about learning to dance in the rain.0 -
Good afternoon
Happy Birthday nanny.
Wet and windy here.I went to get some milk and saw a wet womble stuck to the ground in the carpark. While I was umming and arring if to try to pick it up a man came and swiped it in front of me:rotfl:
Wombling is getting very popular.
I have had the £25 quid thing from ebay so have asked my sister to bring one of her signed posters that she has been selling to list on mine.0 -

That sounds very interesting ....how would you go about trying to find how to start or be considered to be a host family0 -

I'm in Cambridge and we have a massive influx of students visiting every year. The schools are always looking for new host families and they advertise by putting leaflets in the local papers.
If your interested then I guess you could see if there are any schools in your area either by looking in the local rags or by looking online. I've just googled 'wanting to host foreign students' and loads have popped up. Have a nosy, this is their busiest time of the year! This is a surprise:
http://home.bt.com/lifestyle/money/money-tips/sainsburys-is-cheapest-major-supermarket-right-now-11363983588814
Sains. the cheapest of the 'major' supermarkets!
However, :idea:it does depend on what you buy. They just happen to have more items on offers and, even after all of those, on a full shopping basket (not the most efficient way of shopping at all) the supermarkets are still roughly about the same, with Sains, at £56.40:eek: just 51p cheaper than A!
Based on that, and "all thing being equal" - in other words assuming that all items in the basket are directly comparable - the message I get, of course, is to shop in A and claim the APG to make it £5.65 cheaper than S! But I think the real story is told in that it's £56.40 for just 33 items! In other words, it's nearly £1.71:eek: per item! Given that even a less savvy shopper should probably be aiming for a maximum cost of £1 per item, that's a huge overpayment, taken on the whole basket, for the items! And, clearly, if it was £1.71 it wouldn't include many SP/Basics items! Sains. are still almost consistently more expensive on that range than T, M or A - although perhaps not on 'fresh' Spaghetti S compared to A but that's solely due to A increasing its price up and not providing any bargain for us at all on it.
Items for Svs A can certainly be found. This may be good for BM:
Heinz Beanz with Pork Sausages in Tomato Sauce (415g)
S 95p A 48p
I think the basket would not have come out with S cheaper if lots of those had been added!!
Finally, the article, without question or challenge, reinforcing the idea that Aldi and Lidl are "deep discounters". I disagree that they are - whilst they may sometimes go to significantly lower prices on fresh fruit or "Super 6" items more often than the majors, on a vast lot of things they are, it seems to me, merely the same price as the "Value" range in the major supermarkets and not "deep" discounters in any general sense at all, even though, sometimes, they may discount a few headline items. However, that does not matter: as long as people generally believe that they are deep discounters (and people generally believe a lot of crazy things), then it's as good as if they are. The actual facts or "reality" (and everyone's "reality" is arguably different) are irrelevant: it's people's 'feelings', 'impressions', 'perceptions' and 'beliefs' that matter and rule the roost.0 -

Afternoon all
Just back from the seaside Too wet and windy to stay
Wedding on Friday was FAB. DS was the best man . It was a 4 course meal and each dessert had 3 cakes
Went to the caravan yesterday and enjoyed a fish supper dinner in the car watching the tide rolling in. Went a very quick walk on the beach this morning then watched the waves crashing over the rocks I just love that.
A little retail therapy, followed by lunch and a scenic drive home DH is now sleeping before the troops arrive for dinner.
Need a muggle shop tonight0 -
This does compare against M, if only I had known.
1 x Birds Eye Lightly Dusted Cod Fillets in a Lemon & ...£2.98£1.49
Wouldn't have had to struggle with fillers vs S and you can find a lot more items that are better vs M (such as almost all the SP range with M equivalent:mad:). I suspect someone else would have known all along that the Cod Fillets compare against M. I think I should have asked here in advance, but I did not. Hey ho!
