Ever heard of 'Clarity'?

Hi I have received a letter from Clarity regarding their client Cabot financial (Europe) Ltd regarding a debt for £275.
I called them and they said it was a debt from Feb 1998 that defaulted in 1999. I told them I had no recollection of the debt, they told me who the debt was from and what for but I still said I had no recollection. I asked for proof and they said they may be able to get it.
I left it at that.
Can they chase me for this debt that is nearly 10 years old?
It was interest free credit from an electrical shop.
Thanks for looking
Have a great day

Hi TLC - I've never heard of 'Clarity' perse, but theu appear to be yet another debt collection agency that is jumping on the bandwagon and trying to collect alleged debts that are more than six years old, reasonably safe in the knowledge that the majority of 'debtors' are unaware of their rights.
IF you have made no payments to, or had any written contact with the original creditor for a period of at least 6 years (5 in Scotland) then the 'alleged debt' to which they refer is almost certainly covered by the Limitations Act, 1980 and will be 'statute barred'.
This means that they can not collect this debt, once you have told them that you will not pay as it is statute barred.

Good luck.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
