Ulster Bank DD's

Hi

A few weeks ago I tried via my Vodafone online account to change my direct debit details, so that payment was taken from my Ulster Bank account. Vodafone's system accepted the details.

I have been watching to see if the direct debit showed as set up on my bank account. But it never did.

Today I have received a letter from Vodafone asking me to call them as they have no DD details for me. So I called and give the Ulster Bank sort code and account number. They advised that they had taken the details but Ulster Bank would need to call me to confirm that I have agreed this.

Over the years I have set up direct debits with various companies and various banks but I have never been told in the past that the bank need to call me to confirm.

Has anyone else had this?
Should I be worried that there is something strange on my bank account?
Or do I just ignore it?
Or think about arranging payment to VF from another bank?

Thanks

Alex

Vodafone should not be asking you to contact the bank.

When you pass the bank details to them, they should intiate a new DD setup request to the bank, and follow that with a request for a payment after 5 days.
This is based on recollections from 10 years ago , so things may have changed slightly, but I still don't expect you to have to contact the bank. The only circumstance would be where the bank refused to set up the DD (e.g. invalid detail, or account not suitable for DDs [e.g. savings account]), but Vodafone should have this in their records.
