    The facts, as you have described , appear to be that the daughter of one of your clients who recently passed away sent you a communication, addressed to you at the employer's office address.

    The correspondence was opened at the office, apparently in error. An apology has been provided to you.

    The gentleman will not be aware of the matter as he unfortunately is deceased. Unless you choose to inform the family of the deceased of the error your office made, I very much doubt they will be aware of the matter either.

    If I were you, I would not mention the apparent error to the family, but if you do have reason to come into further contact with the daughter of the deceased person you previously cared for, simply thank her for the card and the generous donation made. :)
