After all the questions on cables etc, DS now decides he wants to sell the flipping 360!!
Going to try local first, better than trade in price at game. So what should we do before selling, any formatting - should we remove his profile(assuming it won't effect is x box one, as it is live linked)
any tips?
Thanks

Delete profile and any game saves so basically delete everything, think there's an option to format the drive.
So is he getting an Xbox One ? If he is his gamer tag/account is safe, he just needs to log in when he gets the One with his gamer tag/ email address linked to the gamer tag and password.
I take it he knows the email address and the password for said account ?0 -

Thanks for the advice, Yes he has the Xbox one and logs in fine, we were just unsure about deleting the gamer profile on the 3600 -

Yes that's fine, did the word delete make you think it would be gone forever ?
I'm surprised you don't ask your son about this.0 -

Yes Delete usually does mean that(gone forever) My son is only 13 and all his friends handed theirs to game trade in where game clear the hard drives - hence me asking!
Thanks for you advice and time0 -

Yes I can see why delete would make you think that, it just means remove the profile from the console.0 -
Also check & make sure you've disabled any parental controls, formatting the HD does NOT do that, so if you've set any you'll need to remove those as well as formatting the HD. I doubt it'll be a problem as most don't set any controls but I've seen it happen!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

I would simply do a factory restore.0

I once bought one with parental control set
Much trawling google & youtube for comloplicated procedures didn't work, ( it survives a restore to factory too), luckily the seller replied to my email with the code :cool:I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

It does mean gone forever if the gamer profile isn't backed up to Xbox.com (i.e. if the console has been used offline).
If the console has been connected to Live recently, and logging in at Xbox.com shows the correct gamerscore then you can confidently delete the gamertag from the console.
When you select the option to delete the tag, you get two options, one is to delete profile only, the second is to delete profile and items (i.e. save games). Only delete the latter is he never wants them again and probably won't get another 360. If there's a chance of wanting the save games in the future, you can move them onto a USB stick for safe keeping.
Re deleting games and whatever else is left (avatar items, themes, videos etc), you can do this by formatting the drive from within the console menus, so that when you give the console to someone else it will boot as a new console.0
