Motivation....or lack of

Just after some advice really....or a kick up the !!!!!!

Basically since my son was born I've worked in min wage part time jobs - call centre and for the last 18 months in a supermarket. Firstly it was nightshift and now I do eves and weekends. It works for us as we don't have to pay for childcare and we don't have family to help out, as they all work (OH works regular office hours).

Generally I don't mind my job - I love working with people (colleagues and customers) and it keeps me fit as I'm on my feet all day. However it is monotonous.

I also have two other jobs that I do from home too, but are just a couple of hours a week (all declared to Mr Taxman too before anyone starts:D).

However this week I have been on a real downer. They have been doing the half year reviews for staff and everyone has had the same thing said to them - we all talk too much and productivity is slow. I had mine with my manager and she acknowledges that I don't have a tendancy to wander round and talk to people, like some do. She also said the fact I've never been off sick, have never been late and always offer to do overtime can't be attributed to being positives?! I was like !!!!!!? I was very confused and don't really understand what she wants from me. She is not very approachable to talk to things like this either.

So I left that meeting feeling a bit disheartened, as I thought I was doing ok at the job. It's not rocket science.

How do I get my mojo back and stop walking round the place with a gob on me?!

  • sounds as if she's had a row and is now taking it out on the office boys so to speak. Been there and had it done to me as well.

I'm not sure what you mean by it can't be attributed to being positives.....do you mean she meant that that's what was expected anyway?

Personally if the job suits your family (at the moment) I'd just suck it up and look forward to the day when your son starts school and you can look for something that fits in with that

Thanks for getting back to me.

yeah I think that's what she meant - that it's expected anyway. Sickness is very high on our team, but they were her words - they can't be attributed to being positive. So the fact I've never been late or ever called in sick is not a positive thing? Weird.

Son starts school in Sept so I guess I can look from then....

With a lot of the reviews it's just something they have to do every few months to meet some requirements. Also they are probably saying it to all so everyone sings off the same song sheet. Sometimes some need a reminder they go to work to work and not as an extension to there social life and it sounds to me like its a reminder to the many and not to the few
