At the risk of grasping at a potential explanation, I have a feeling that McD's have changed the way they sell the Big Tasty. (I can't be 100% sure, because that particular burger is way too big for me personally, and I never order it).
First of all, the Big Tasty is a seasonal option (probably the one that appears most often during the year, but seasonal nevertheless).
When the Big Tasty is on the menu, it is the only beef burger product that has bacon in it. (There is also a bacon & chicken option in salads, deli & wrap, though these products have "bacon" in the name). There is also sometimes a seasonal chicken burger with bacon.
Previously, the Big Tasty has always been sold as two seperate products: with and without bacon. For its last outing (Jan-Apr 2015) it has been sold as a single product line - with bacon.
I agree that someone can still ask for bacon to be withheld, but it won't be already in the chutes, and it would be a special order.
No one is saying that there isn't an option to make that special order, just that if a non-hazardous error is made, it is not the end of the World, and bacon as an ingredient is very easy to see.0 -
Have you ever seen pedestrians cross the road without checking? You remind me of such people! They might have right of way but if someone hits you then that doesn't really matter any more (but your health will!)
Brilliant!
A highly comparable scenario yeh!!
I'm guessing when you have your car serviced you check the dip stick before driving away. When you do your shopping make sure the tills scanned the correct price for all your items. When you order a coffee you go check they've put the whole milk in instead of wrongly used skimmed. Blah blah blah blah.
We have to have an element of good faith when buying goods and services! And i'm betting not many people open up their mayo chicken before putting it in their mouths to check there isn't a pickle in it.0 -

I do somewhat agree here, but feel members have been very harsh on the op here.
IMO op has every right to complain to head office for their repeated failures to listen to basic instruction and to have them use this complaint to try improve service.
But for a thread to be turned on its head and pretty much making out op should be the one bearing the responsibility in out of order.0 -

I expect the responses are centred around the OP being a troll. McDonalds do not serve halal products in their UK stores, the OP's complaint never happened.0 -

Thats depending on the branch, as most ask "Is that with bacon?"0 -

Nothing wrong with checking some items when making a purchase. Check the dip stick? Better than breaking down 10 miles away. Checking the till scans the correct price? Better than overpaying for items when you don't have much money. The coffee one is a bit more "fussy" because it is just personal preference really.
The mayo chicken pickle example is a fair point. If someone has a pickle allergy then it is wise to be checking when you know that the ingredient is widely used.
OP compared bacon to that of a peanut allergy, so they feel strongly about it. You would be a fool to assume an element of good faith, because if you are wrong then you are screwed!0 -

So you're saying you'd take you car for a service, then check all their work before driving it away? Dip stick, brake pads, tracking, etc. Because that's what you seem to be advocating.0 -
If there is a type of food you won't eat for health, religion or moral issues then it would seem sensible to check it before you bite into it.
I realise you shouldn't have to but your food is made and served by a minimal wage worker who is probably a student and has no real love of their job. As such mistakes do happen.
You'll get a voucher for a free meal. That's what they always give me when I complain.0 -

Well, I drive a motorbike and yes I always check any repairs which may cause harm if they go faulty. EVERY SINGLE ONE! Can't comment on cars in all fairness, so maybe you don't have to check. Still, and back to my point, I don't see any harm in checking (do you? Do your eyes fall out if you check your car brake pads in the garage?! haha)
Ultimately, I'm not going to criticise whether you check or not, but there is an element of danger in doing so! Just like the whole peanut analogy brought up by OP, and the basis of my post (which you have not commented on...). If you have a peanut allergy (read: religious belief about bacon) and you know that they have it as an active ingredient in the restaurant then you are a fool not to check, do you not agree?0 -
I purchased some beer in WHSmiths today, after trying to flog me an extra large aero chocolate bar and paying, they informed me I was not allowed to actually drink the beer.
I really should have read the small print0
