Owner Of A Dissolved Company Demanding Money

Options
A property management company managed a property for me for 12 months in 2007/8. The owner sold the company, and I decided to manage the property myself. 2 years later, in 2010, that same company was dissolved. This week I have received a demand from the original owner for money he claims I owe him for property management fees for 12 months in 2007/8. Has he any right to do this?

Not if the debt is older than 6 Years he can't. He can ask, but that's as far as he can take it legally. ;)

Do you owe the money ?

Surely if the company was dissolved, it would be up to the receiver appointed, to chase up any bad debts, I am no expert in this area, gut feeling ?
Trying it on springs to mind !!!

Not sure about that, but this debt could be statute barred, meaning they might not be able to enforce it in court.

What type of company was it; sole, limited?

No I don't owe him anything. He managed the property as a favour, as he was a friend at the time. There were no contracts drawn up - he simply collected the rent and passed it on to me. He now claims I owe him management fees for those 12 months.

Surely if there was no written contract then he doesn't have a leg to stand on?
I think he's probably down on his luck and trying to get some money out of you.

I may be wrong though - hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along soon x

With no contractual obligation to pay him and a debt over 6 years old you are not required to pay this person anything.

If he persisted it would be laughed out of court, no reputable agency would take this 'debt' seriously so it would never get that far, keep the letter on file just in case but rest easy!
