cash in hand work - 1 week

hello,
just a quick one. Tomorrow I have done a week work with a "friend". I'll be paid cash, and he's putting it through the books. My question is, I've seen the invoice and it has my name on it, so is he paying the tax/ni. If not I assume he'd be liable? What do I need to do?
Is this legit? I have only given my NI number, what more do I do?
Cheers,

There's nothing dodgy about being paid wages in cash as long as it's declared and the tax paid
"Cash in hand" generally refers to being paid in cash without the taxman getting his cut.
You should recieve a pay slip detailing these deductions. If not and he's treating you as self-employed (which he might be if he's putting through an invoice in your name), then you would be responsible for paying it. You should probably ask him to confirm exactly what he's up to.0 -
You need to clarify the situation. Is he self employed and has done a job for someone with your assistance and has now invoiced them but in your name? I have to say that it sounds a bit dubious - he is likely to be your employer and it's his responsibility to deduct your tax and NI. You should ask him what his intentions for tax and NI are then report back.0

He owns a business, I've helped out this week. I'm not self employed, but have seen my name on an invoice but on his headed business invoice. So it's his invoice, with how many hours he did, and then how many hours I did.0

So that sounds like his invoice for the services provided by his business to the client.
Does it give a total amount for both your times or are there separate monetary values given for each? If separately, does the amount against your name equate to the amount you expect to be paid?0
