Employer not paying for first 48 hours

Hi i started a job in August 2014 as a security guard, they said in my interview that the first 48 hours pay would be kept back and paid to me on completion of my first year because of the cost of training, uniform etc anyway they were a terrible company to work for and they made things really difficult for me i was struggling to make any money after the amount of fuel i was putting in my car, they did security very close to me but chose to send me to work in a place that was over a 100 mile round trip a day, they would not pay any fuel.
I never had any training i stepped right in to a 60 hour week working schedule and i never received a uniform etc.
I had to stop working for them because it just wasn't financially viable.
I didn't quit i took time off because i was mentally strained, they wouldn't pay me any sick pay so i decided to not do anything further with them and leave it until the year was up or they fired me so at least i could get the 48 hours back.
They sent me a letter today basically saying they have not heard from me in over two months and will treat it as unauthorized absence i think they are just trying to get out of paying me for work done as this is the first contact Ive had from them, they haven't sent me a schedule in all that time.

    Sounds like a right shower.

However, you can't just absent yourself - have you been sending sick notes in?

So you knew the pay would be held back...
You chose to work for a national company with a requirement to work anywhere...
    You absconded / went AWOL
Subsequently dismissed / pending dismissal, so didnt make a year.

Sorry for the loss of your job and all, but what actually is your question?

Look think what you want to think this company is terrible they purposely made my life difficult, obviously I'm not going to get anyone that think it's unfair and I don't see how a company can legally hold £500 from me because of training costs etc literally they spent nothing on me I provided my own uniform on the etc
I believe that if they fire me they are still liable to pay that money and I didn't leave they made the decision.

What exactly did the terms you agree to say about holding back the first 48 hours pay?
Was it a condition that you had to complete 12 months service to receive this? If so, as you didn't complete this period, you are not entitled to the money.
Otherwise, you are entitled to be paid for all authorised hours worked, even if you have nowv found yourself sacked.
All pay should be accompanied (or preceeded by) a payslip giving full details.

Sorry that doesn't really make sense, yes it was held back for 12 months but if they sack me that's there decision I can't control that, by your thinking they could sack me 1 week before the year is up to get out of paying.
I don't see how they can enforce it legally that money was held back because of training costs, uniform etc but they didn't expend any money on these things as I didn't have training and spent my own money buying uniform, so they didn't fulfil there side of the contract and I should be paid for work done.

How does one work with the other I am not sure? Both posts from this year short term apart?

You did not turn up for work, you did not notify about absence with sick note or in any other way and you still say you did not leave this job?

I am really sorry you feel the way you do but you went AWOL

Still, now matter what - you worked those 48 hours and you should get money for it BUT what paperwork did you sign to agree for them to keep it?

So you haven't turned up for months, you didn't notify them you wouldn't be in, you didn't work there for a full year....but you still think they should act as if you were there for a year and pay you for the first two days?

Frankly I feel that they SHOULD pay for any work done/hours worked and putting any conditions on that is terribly unfair. Regardless how long OP has worked there - he DID work those 48 hours so yes, should get paid for it.

The OP attitude - not turning up for months is a completely separate matter here.

Have you thought about going back to work, maybe this way you will avoid the sack?

Appreciate I may come across a bit blunt but... End of day, you signed the contract, you agreed to everything you are complaining about now. Not sure what else to advise.
