Help with student loan

Options
Just after some advice sorry if this is the wrong place but I’m not getting any joy on the loan forum. I currently work part time 4 mornings a week – my partner works full time earning £17,000 pa. I take home £550 pm. My little one goes to nursery whilst I work. I would like to return to education and do an access course so that I could then get in to uni to study to be a midwife. I can apply for a 24+ loan to cover my course fees however I had a student loan 17 years ago when at uni but never earned enough to start paying it back and have had no contact from them for over 7 or 8 years. Will they refused my loan for this course because of that? I only went to university for 2 years and then left due to family circumstances.
I am also wondering if there is any other help available. I think I would get child tax credits (currently just get working tax). The college said they will pay 80% of the childcare so that’s great and the tuition fees of £3,500 would hopefully be covered by the 24+ loan. Does anyone know of any other help available just for living costs (I may be able to apply for a little housing benefit from what I can see on the wakefield website – about £15 a week which would all help) – I don’t need the same amount as I earn to do the course but would need around about £250 a month to cover us.
Thanks

    Hi

Is there anyway you can save up instead of getting a loan for the whole lot? Have you worked out a suitable budget and plugged all your figures into it? with loan/without loan/paying back the loan. Rather than relying heavily on benefits etc. (not always predictable)

Could you work part time whilst training too?

Is there any other courses etc you could take to see if you actually like it? maybe volunteering at a local hospital for example? you dont want to get a massive loan, then decide you dont really want to do it...
