STRESSED OUT - need help

We decided to apply for a mortgage with Leeds BS, we got the DIP and sent off all documentation for full application. After 2 and a half months, Leeds are still saying they haven't had the right documents, they have lost my file 3 times. Leeds have made so many mistakes theres too many to list.

We are now at the point where we are getting constant pressure from the vendors, (everyday) and we just don't have the time to wait for leeds any more. So we have decided to change mortgage lenders. Today we applied for santander and nationwide, we passed the affordability check but failed because of a low credit score.

The reason for low credit scores is that we are 21, still living with parents and therefor haven't had the chance to pay bills or anything to build up a score. We have no faults or anything like that.

I don't know what to do from here? This is by far the most stressful thing i have ever done.

What are Leeds saying they need now? Do you know what stage the application is at?

It is possibly still going to be quickest to stick with them - they could be close to offering?

Failing that, sounds like you need to talk to a good broker.

Stop applying to lenders directly and collecting a raft of credit searches in the process.

Speak to an independent whole of market mortgage broker and let them understand your circumstances and advise which lender will take you on.

One suggested method (as well as Google) for finding a good broker, is to follow the steps in this post.

Not particularly helpful to the OP, but I find it surprising how many people refer to this process being stressful.

You know what's stressful? The millions of people currently living through war and poverty. You know what's not stressful? Living with mummy and daddy and being in a position to buy a house. Grow up.

You're right at the start of the process. It gets a hell of a lot more difficult from here.

Wow- that is just plain rude! I came here looking for a bit of advise so I know how to tackle the situation. In regards to your comments "living with mummy and daddy". You have no idea how I live and my current situation.

The way to remove the stress is to give the case to a broker.

Applying and getting a decline with two further lenders is clearly not the solution.

You could ask a broker to assist you in getting the current application over the line.

I know that this is the single most stressful thing that has ever happened to you in your 21 years on this earth.

Anyway, I apologise for the rant and wish you all the best with your home purchase.

Definitely pay a broker to help you.

Wow the helpfulness of the MSE forums strikes again.

OP did you make a complaint to Leeds?

Again hiring a broker to help you through this process would seem the right step at this point in time.

With regard to your credit score that doesn't exist so don't worry about that. Check things like you are on the electoral roll. Your current accounts aren't in overdraft, mobile phones are paid on time and in full. If you don't have alot of credit then get a credit card each of you and pay it off in full every month to prove you are trustworthy to lend to and are responsible for credit. Have you also checked your 3 credit reports - Callcredit, Experian and Equifax to make sure the information held on them is correct and up to date?

Buying a house IS a stressful process and if you are a worrier or stress-head then no amount of thinking how lucky we are compared to others is going to minimise that. This is OUR life and OUR circumstances and we have every right to find it stressful. I'm 39 and haven't lived with 'mummy & daddy' for a very long time and even when I did - I was living with an alcoholic father. Sometimes sleeping with my mum and 2 sisters to feel safe. So because I had a roof over my head and didn't face war every day, was I not allowed to feel scared and worried??

Take your judgy pants off!! Not what the OP came here for!

OP - i don't have much advice but it took 10 weeks and a decline before we got a mortgage agreed. definitely find an independent broker who can take some if the stress off you. Not all, if you're anything like me lol. Good luck.

Thank you so much, I can 100% relate to this and glad someone gets it. I do have a broker helping me and it was his decision to try the other mortgage providers. However I am relieved to say that leeds rang out of the blue and said it has gone to full offer! I have put in a complaint to leeds as it should never have taken this long and the mistakes shouldn't have been made. :)
