They have provided a statement showing payments and the like. During this time she was using bank of scotland and now owes them money so she cant call them to try and confirm the transaction. Any ideas?
I think all you can do if you can't verify the payment was made is probebley to call there bluff.
Write and insist you never made the payment, and you concider the account to be statute barred.
Tell them not to contact you again about this matter.
Remember they would have to provide evidence to a court, should things progress that far, something they won't be willing to do if it's a made up payment.
If on the other hand they were able to prove the payment was made, you would have to fess up and accept it would need to be dealt with.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Thanks very much for the advice. I'll draft up a letter and send it on. I can imagine they will come back to me seeing that the wife definitely made a payment but always worth a try.0
