Applying for accounts while waiting for a mortgage

Hi,
This may sound like a stupid question but we don't want to do anything that might cause problems for our mortgage application.
My partner and I have applied for a mortgage with natwest, valuation was completed last week and we are now waiting for an offer from them.
We want to open a joint current account so that we can pay fees, buy furniture and be able to set bill up for when we move using this account. Would applying for a current account cause any problems? I imagine they would do a credit check although we dont want an overdraft.
Thanks

I was told not to apply for any account while the mortgage was being sorted, due to the credit search aspect.Mortgage start September 2015 £90000 MFiT #060

dont apply for ANY credit until your mortgage completes would be my suggestion.
Chances are it wont have an effect, but its not worth the risk.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Thanks. I thought this might be the case.
I think it will be a while before we are able to complete due to being in a chain. It's annoying having some money in my account and some in my partners.0 -

Would a current account be considered as credit as we would not want an over draft?

We are remortgaging with TSB and we get some cash back if we open a current account. We have to open that separately. I am presuming it won't be an issue in these circumstances?0
