Expense of Relocating down South

Hi, has anyone relocated from a cheaper area to a moreexpensive place before? I.e. maybe to London or the South East.
What was your driving factor? And what was the minimumuplift in salary you took (or would be willing to take?)
In my case, I initially moved from NorthWest to EastMidlands. For career progression, not much of a salary uplift. And Cost ofLiving was relatively the same. And its been great.
Now, I have a new offer in the SouthEast of the country, with approx. 16/17% rise in base salary but renting down there is a 40-50%rise!!! Now I’m in a dilemma. As it’s a great opportunity, increasedresponsibility but wondering if that outweighs the effect of expense!!
There are other pros associated with the move – e.g. Closerto family, better opportunities for spouse, etc. But as the main bread winnerthe Cost of living thing still stands out high on the Cons!!!
But my main Q is, What was your driving factor? And what wasthe minimum uplift in salary you took (or would be willing to take?)

I commute from the North to London for work, and the driving factor is money and career, the most interesting and challenging projects in my sector are all based in london. I have considered re-locating but can't convince the mrs to give up our house for a central london flat so commuting it is.
I could work locally but really don't fancy taking on a 40k paycut.0
