Urgent mobile advice needed pleas

Hi all,

I'm on a mission to reduce my outgoings and clear my debt I'm taking a realistic view of my bills need advice on my mobile contract.

The contract ends 29/04/2016 if I leave the contract early I have £280.44 to pay for cancelling. My monthly is £29.00 but I rarely pay £29 I usually end up paying £35-£40 per month:eek:

All my family are on giff gaff which provides a much higher Internet usage 3GB instead of my 2gb and includes free calls to each other not taken out of your allowance.

The goody bag I would use would be £12.50 a month.

Here's my dilemma do I cancel the contract and pay the fee as I will be making money in the long run and get to keep my iPhone? Or do I stick with it for another year. I have heard you can block your contract not to go over a limit I could also do that but unsure if that incurs a charge?

All comments and feedback will be gratefully received. Thanks in advance xx

Do you know why you are exceeding the basic £29 a month?

I would speak to your current provider about whether you can set a monthly cost limit on the account (I doubt you would need to pay for it).

If the main issue is to reduce your bills then if you set the limit to say £30 a month then the overall cost for the next 12 months would be £360.

Compared to £280 + £12.50 x 12 = £430 by paying up and switching. Is your phone currently network locked? would you also need to pay a fee to unlock it to use on the giffgaff?

Bit of an update I've spoken to them again I go over because of my data use. They have offered three months free unlimited data. I forgot I was paying an extra £5 for an extra gig of data this has been removed so my monthly would be £25 per month. My contract already includes unlimited mins and unlimited texts. Now they are offering free data shall I just stick it out until April?

They also reminded me that picture text messages aren't free if not iMessages i didn't realise this.

I now know why I go over a set amount = My problem was I didn't realise picture messages weren't included and I forget sometimes to put my wifi on my phone when I get home from work. At work my phone constantly tries to connect to the guest wifi which we can't use so in switch wifi off.

My plan stick with the contract especially at a cheaper rate, I've changed my phone settings to disable picture messages. If it ain't there then I can't send it, download app to monitor usage.

Thanks again I know my title was a little bit melodramatic sorry.

Thanks for responding Tixy sometimes you need someone else to help see the bigger picture.

I wouldn't think anyone with a smartphone doesn't use whatsapp... free messages, pictures and phone calls! Works really well when I'm abroad and want to call the UK for free (with a wifi for this, otherwise it eats too much data) . And Trixxibell, your picture cannot be there unless you create an account and upload it :)

Given the above do not change at the moment. But learn to only use your phone when it wont cost you, once you look for it there is free wifi virtually everywhere!!

Whatever you decide to do, when you come to the end of your contract swap to an unlimited SIM-only deal to use with your current phone; iPhones are undoubtedly great handsets but it's Apple's job to convince you that you need a new one every time they release one.

I have a SIM-only deal: unlimited texts, calls and data for £16.50 per month with Virgin. I am aware you can get cheaper: my broadband is with TalkTalk and I know that they currently do an unlimited SIM-only deal for £12. There's no long-term contract for either, just a 30-day cancellation period.

Why more people don't do this I'll never know.

I've never used it either, never quite understood it, suppose I should find out.
