Just started comping - where to set my expectations?

Expect unexpected :-)
Comping is amazing hobby, been comping about 4 years how. Usually spend 1-2 hrs a day entering. I'm picky what comps to enter.
Had 3 months without win few times, but also won holiday to LA out of the blue. It's just exciting hobby :-)Best wins ever:
2012: Holiday to LA for 2 adults +2 kids for 4 days
2013: £2 000 Virgin Holiday Voucher!
2014: $1000 spending money for hols
2015: 8 night holiday to Thailand0 -
I aim to enter about a hundred a day, sometimes this is only 50 and sometimes nothing at all. I seem to get at least one win once a month.
I list everything I have won on my blog, and have been comping for nearly a year now.

Hope it is ok to post that. It'll give you an idea of what is possible.
I'll add I've learnt to be a lot more specific. I won two very big prizes which I didn't take for various reasons, one was far away, the other on a day I'd prefer to not attend events. I now take more care about what I am entering for.
I also used to enter for things to flog on ebay. I've stopped doing that as I've ended up with items that can not be sold, and I feel sorry that someone could have won it instead of me and enjoyed it.Wins of 20210 -

I'll laugh if a man turns up at our door announcing himself to be the canal guide. :rotfl:. I'll have to film him chatting away and put it on the blog lol.Wins of 20210 -
One of the things I can't get my head around is that one person reports they've not won anything in ~1 year and another has a long list of things they've won each month.
When they are both entering ~100 comps a day, over the course of a year, you would surely expect those numbers to even out statistically if they are entering roughly the same comps ie. the ones posted here.0 -
Some people are just luckier than others. I'm a great believer in luck, and if you believe you'll win, you will eventually hit the 'jackpot' xxDecember Wins: £300 worth of board games, £500 Tesco Vouchers Best Win in 2023: £500 Tesco Vouchers0

Another thing is that looking through this forum it seems very rare that someone wins a holiday, despite holidays being some of the most common competitions!
I suppose they are the most popular and get a lot of entries.0 -
A lot of people that seem to win a lot, generally, don't win a lot of "decent" prizes.
I don't enter competitions for stuff I don't want, or wouldn't have a use for ... and a lot of people do the same so for the competitions where the prize is some crafty piece of tatt, or a football, they don't generally get a lot of entries so the people that enter those comps will be more likely to win them.
Each to their own, and I'm not passing judgement, it is the smaller prizes that keep you motivated ... but for me, I just can't be bothered spending the time.
There are obviously exceptions to that rule and some people do just win good prizes all the time, luck of the draw and all that baloney0 -
Rational judgement, now, at this very moment.
Virtuous action, now, at this very moment.

My experience? I look at all the comps on the main board but don't enter social media, gay, golf, or comps for single DVDS unless I want them. Generally I don't do dailies. I find that regular small wins keeps my spirits up despite the effort.
It has taken me 14 months to balance my comping pattern and I have won a few really nice things though nothing huge like a foreign holiday SO FAR! I worked out that it pays about a realised £1 per hour of effort but it is a hobby for me and I have experienced new things via the prizes won.
Good luck!Still cracking on....
