Best budget sewing machine for a newbie

Hi all
Not sure i am posting in the right forum but have decided that OS may be my best bet. I am looking at buying a sewing machine but have no experience, and have a small budget ( i could spend up to £100 at a push) - really hoping to spend a little less though.
I am wanting a machine that can cope with altering jeans , and also other trousers. I am fed up of shelling out extra ££'s getting my clothes altered when i could do this myself.
Thanks :j

John Lewis have some at about that price too. Do not be tempted to buy their Mini machine, I tried one once and it was flimsy and I could not get the tension right. Good luck with finding one£180.00 in 'sistercas'fund
