Which console/ hand held device for my son (12yrs)

Options
Hi,
I would really appreciate it if anyone could point me in the right direction, we have a 12 yr old son who would like a game console/ hand held device for his birthday,it would have to be second hand though. we have had the the wii almost since it first came out, but he ( as with most 12 yr olds!) has played on his friends consoles minecraft and lego games, which he enjoys playing. My thought is something like a ps vita, so he can take it places, other than just the sitting room?a play station 3, or an android tablet? He has no preferance , other than he can play the games mentioned. He's not one to be always gameming either. If there are any other devices you may think more suitable please say, Many Thanks!

I only know of the vita and an android tablet that can play Lego games and Minecraft.

Important question to ask is a budget involved ?

Thanks for the information, Our budget would be up to £100. for a re-conditioned one ( I don't think you can get a new one for that!). We did also think of a pc ( netbook?) so he could play the games mentioned - could he do this with a netbook?, and also use it for homework in the future?

Not sure about the games on a netbook.

I wouldn't say a netbook is portable, do you want something portable ?

A second hand one check your local GAME store.

A netbook might be light but I wouldn't imagine the battery life would be better than that of a vita.

Netbooks are portable. They usually have around 10" screens.

The DS (2d and 3d) also do the Lego games. Not too sure about Minecraft though.

Turns out the Vita got minecraft port (Can't link because new user, but give it a google), and it definitely has the lego games.

Not sure if you'll be able to rummage one up for under £100 though. Worth looking through your local CEXs and the such.

PS3 would be a good shout - endless back catalogue, reasonably priced games.
