How long do I need to be employed before I apply for a mortgage?

Options
Me and OH are looking to buy a house, we are short on affordability as I am currently SAHM. I will be going back to work soon after a unpaid career break and wanted to know how soon a lender will consider my income for affordability? I have a potential job lined up which will be permanent from the start. Do I have to work for so many months first?

    Varies by lender.

Some will take the income into account up to 3 months before you start, some will consider it immediately, some will want you to have been employed for a few months first. It's one for a broker.

Thanks for your replies. No not a formal job offer. It is likely it will happen but not set in stone.

Mine didn't have a specific time frame, but did ask whether I was in a probation/trial period etc: so this may depend on your employment.

I'd agree, though, it sounds like a perfect case for getting a broker to do the leg work for you.
