There is an Algerian pastry which I made yesterday. Easy and cheap.
4 eggs, 1 cup oil and 1 cup of sugar. Whisk together. Add enough SR flour until you can touch it with out sticking to it. Use half of the mixture to line the base of a baking tray (swiss roll type), cover with any jam hanging around in the cupboard. Cover with the rest of the dough. I take a bit and just flatten it between my fingers and cover the jam with a jigsaw of bits. Once it is baked it smooths out.
Bake at gas 4/180 for about 20 mins. Cut into squares.
You can do it without the jam. Just add nuts or dried fruit to the dough, or leave plain and brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

Swedish cinnamon buns:- Dough: 1.5tsps quick action yeast, 500ml lukewarm whole milk, 1 egg (lightly beaten), 850g flour, 100g sugar, 2tsp ground cardamom, 1/2 tsp salt, 150g softened butter.
Filling: 150g softened butter, 150g sugar, 4tsp ground cinnamon.
Mix yeast into milk, add egg then mix in flour, sugar, cardamom and salt. Mix butter into dough and knead on a well floured surface for about 5 mins. Put dough into a bowl, cover and leave to prove for about an hour until approx. doubled in size.
Meanwhile mix the filling ingredients together and leave to cool a little.
Divide the dough in half and roll each out to a rectangle measuring approx. 30x40cm. Spread with cinnamon butter and roll from the long side into a cylinder. Cut into 2.5cm slices.
Line baking trays with parchment and place cinnamon rolls on paper, pressing down slightly to spread a little. Cover and leave to rise for 30 minutes.
Bake in a preheated oven for 25-30 mins and cool before serving.
IT takes some time as you have to wait for the buns to prove (though the dough, once made, will happily sit in the fridge for a couple of days so you could put them together pretty quickly) but its a really simple and tasty recipe.0
